Graduate Research Concerns in Public Universities

Aware of the duration between which submit theses, too much pressure is put on students who invest time and money to complete research works, and diligently finish and make ‘early-bird’ submissions to the Department. After submissions, the books are only shelved for over three months without being assigned examiners. Even those who submit theses late find the ‘early-birds’ still waiting. This questions the principle of fairness: whether it applies in treatment of ‘early-birds’ verses ‘late-birds;’ and subsequently failing to graduate as planned (beginning of next year), after fulfilling programme requirements. Realizing that opportunities are rare phenomena, graduate students find irresistible jobs upcountry and abroad, which makes it expensive to only return to follow-up the progress of the theses or attend Viva Voce. Some of the students are foreign with families, who miss them terribly and get impoverished as they keep around following the progress of their theses. Acknowledging the frustration already felt, we call upon your good office and its affiliates to expeditiously see off all the theses damped in the book-bank, to facilitate us move-on from here and attend to new career needs.
